Interaction with Drug Dealers and Smugglers
Chapter 14 is summary of how difficult research conducted on drug dealers and drug smugglers can be. Select a Deviance theory or theories discussed in Module 1 (Chapters 3,5,7,8 or 10) and apply it to Chapter 14 Researching Dealers and Smugglers by arguing for the theory, making a case for it about why the drug dealers/smugglers engage in their behavior.

Instructions

1. First, Read Chapter 14 Adler “Researching Dealers and Smugglers” taking notes on the various difficulties, techniques, situations and processes the Adlers used to get close to the drug dealers and smugglers.

2. Briefly review the theories of deviance in Module 1.

3. After reading Chapter 14, select one or more theories you think applies to the individuals described in Chapter 14, including the textbook authors, concerning why they are involved in drug smuggling and drug dealing.

4. In your paper, argue for your theory by comparing the deviance theory to the specific actions and techniques used by the drug dealers/smugglers or the textbook authors the Adlers in their research.
5. Answer the question, “Why is research among deviants and criminals be difficult to conduct?”

6. Be sure to cite your sources using APA. You may want to refer to the Purdue Online Writing Lab, http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/… requirement is to post to AT LEAST two classmates. If you do the minimum requirement, it doesn’t mean that you will get full credit. You will be graded on the quality and also quantity of your insights and participation.
