total institutions

Goffman talks about “total institutions” in his book Asylums, and we saw the Zimbardo Prison Experiment in class. Using research and lecture material from throughout the course, consider the extent to which UMass/Boston could be considered a “total institution.” In what ways is it similar? In what ways is it different? Summarize the impact on both the “staff” and “inmates” (be sure to identify who you consider to be staff and who you consider to be inmates).
